She Raised Her Hand Initiative
The Santa Barbara County Commission for Women in Partnership with the Santa Barbara County Veterans Collaborative and Allan Hancock College originated the She Raised Her Hand Initiative. The loss of identity was a top challenge cited by women veterans in several studies. The loss of camaraderie, purpose, and belonging experienced in the military can leave many feeling isolated in the civilian community. The partners in this effort recognize the need to develop a community for women veterans.
National data illustrates the differences in experiences between veterans, based on gender. Through hosted and nonhosted social events, networking, learning options, and mentorships, She Raised Her Hand provides opportunities to rekindle the bonds of sisterhood, camaraderie, and connection. We also aim to shine a light on the contributions of and value within the women veterans and the public throughout Santa Barbara County.
